Learn traditional or modern upholstery and sewing skills on our courses

Upholstery courses are taught by Jan, Alex, Vicky and Ann, at our purpose built workshop in Almondbury under the name of Manorhouse School of Upholstery.  We are only a mile from Huddersfield town centre and are easy to find with plenty of parking on-site. Jan is City and Guild qualified and taught upholstery courses and sewing courses for Kirklees College before setting up Manorhouse School of Upholstery in 2017.

Students work in small groups, usually of mixed abilities and ages. New students are encouraged to begin with a small item of furniture such as a drop-in seat, a small footstool, or even a headboard. If you have a larger or more difficult item that requires re-upholstering speak to Jan first to make arrangements and to check suitability. All equipment is available to use, but you are welcome to bring your own tools if you prefer. You can bring your own item of furniture, or we may be able to find a suitable item from the school's own supply for a small cost.

Advice and teaching is very hands-on and practical, and you will learn at your own pace in a friendly and fun environment. Students with no experience are welcome and will be taught the basic upholstery skills required to progress to a complete upholstery project. Students with some experience and a desire to refine skills or learn new techniques are equally welcome.

Both modern and traditional techniques can be learnt. So if you or a friend would like to learn to upholster in a friendly environment contact Jan using the details below, or visit the main website at https://www.manorhouseupholstery.net

We also sell gift vouchers so if you want to buy a present for a family member or friend that will see them learn a new skill and meet new people, call Jan for details.
